Nearly a full month after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, Take-Two Interactive has put out a statement offering its “unwavering support” to colleagues in the United States and across the world.
“We have been working with our benefits providers to ensure our US colleagues and their dependents receive the best possible care wherever they may live,” said Take-Two, which is the parent company of Grand Theft Auto publisher and developer Rockstar Games.
Along with expanding travel and lodging benefits, Take-Two has adopted a new platform to provide critical support across pregnancy, fertility, adoption, pediatrics, and parenting.
In the weeks leading up to and following the Supreme Court’s decision, multiple developers spoke against the reversal. Most of them, such as ArenaNet, Respawn Entertainment, and Devolver Digital, have come out in vocal support for equal rights or access to abortion and donated to various abortion funds. Others, such as publisher Electronic Arts, have promised to support employees with expanded travel health benefits.
Prior to the Roe v Wade ruling, several major publishers intended to not speak on the matter. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan sent an email urging employees to “respect differences on opinion,” leading to Insomniac Games organizing a donation to the abortion access nonprofit, the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project. Sony later matched the company’s donation.
Marketplaces and smaller studios have also done their bit to help those affected by the Supreme Court’s decision. Earlier this month, indie marketplace itch raised over $380,000 in aid of reproductive rights with assistance from indie devs through a charity indie bundle.
All proceeds from that bundle will be donated to the Collective Power Fund, meaning the cash will be handed directly to abortion funds in more than 20 U.S. states.
